Session 1: Building a Healthy, Passionate Board
Take a close look at your artist-centered organization and learn how to:
  • cultivate and recruit the best governance team;
  • set clear expectations for board participation;
  • engage the board’s passion for your mission;
  • develop skills to make board members confident leaders and advocates;
  • plan for new generations of board membership.

Board members and executive staff will share perspectives and explore together, through guided exercises, the creation of your ideal board.

12 - 1 pm

Lunch discussion: Have you heard the one about....?
Share your stories, challenges, and great ideas with colleagues over lunch.
1:30 - 3pm

Session 2: Are you ready to rule? Fine-Tuning Your Governance IQ

The nonprofit board has very specific roles to fill and responsibilities to the organization. Learn best practices and how to embrace your role, contribute your skills, and evaluate these areas of board responsibility:
  • sound organizational planning;
  • good personnel management;
  • ample resources and financial health;
  • legal requirements and compliance;
  • good governance.

Through guided exercises, board members and executive staff will determine what areas of responsibility need to be refined, ways to create effective working relationships between board and staff, and how best to evaluate performance.

3:30 - 5 pm

Session 3: Working Out Regularly: Building Your Fundraising Muscle
Board members bring a wide variety of strengths to fundraising, even when they feel shy about this process. Learn more about the board's fundraising responsibilities, which include:
  • making a financial contribution to the organization
  • asking friends and others to support an organization you're very passionate about
  • cultivating and recruiting other board members who can successfully raise funds
  • overseeing the organization's fundraising efforts

Learn about your asking style and the benefits of teaming up for solicitations - fulfilling the story-telling role or delivering "just the facts, ma'am." Through guided exercises and role-playing, learn how to strengthen your individual fundraising skills. Practice makes perfect!

7pm - 10pm evening reception and auction party (tickets required; may be purchased in advance or at the door)
