Art Studio Coordinator | Holden Village (Chelan, WA)

Holden Village is looking for an Art Studio Coordinator. This is a one year Volunteer position, but it comes with room and board, health insurance, boat tickets (the main way to get in and out of Holden Village), a parking pass at the boat dock, ample days out of the Village, guest passes, and a monthly stipend. Families are welcome to come, as we have a public school, but be sure to fill out a family option program application.

The Art Studio Coordinator position creates an atmosphere in Holden’s Art Studios that is welcoming, while encouraging guests and staff to explore their creativity. Duties include warping, maintaining, and troubleshooting a variety of looms, keeping art studios clean and organized, supervising volunteers, providing arts and crafts classes, and other tasks as needed. Must be eager to learn new things and unafraid to teach with little or no experience. Must enjoy working with a wide variety of people of different ages, from children through adults, on a one-to-one or group basis in an active environment. Experience weaving, warping and maintaining looms required. Knitting, sewing, painting, drawing, printmaking, bookbinding, basket making, tie dying, inkle weaving, etc. are all perks, but not required.

All staff at Holden participate in Work of the Village, which includes weekly dish team, monthly garbo (garbology), and during the winter, weekly boiler stoking. Also, all members of the Village are expected to be at daily worship services (although participation is not required), and staff at weekly staff meetings. The Art Studio Coordinator also participates in the Guest Experience Team weekly meetings, and the Artists weekly meetings.

To apply please see the following website:

Holden Village is an ELCA Lutheran Retreat Center in the heart of the Cascade Mountains. We are considered one of the most remote continuously inhabited communities in the lower 48, and so getting here (especially in the winter) can be tricky. This job is not recommended for people who have severe nut allergies, or a health concern where having medical facilities nearby is important. During the winter, it can take over 24 hours to get someone to urgent medical care, although we do have a medic in the Village at all times. We get an average of 300" of snow a year, and so mobility around the Village can be tricky. Please read through the website, especially the sections about getting here and the FAQs, before applying.

Questions? Email arts@holdenvillage.org for specifics about the job; or staffing@holdenvillage.org about working here in general or the application process.
