The Studios at MASS MoCA

Emerging Program member

At the Studios at MASS MoCA (launched in October 2015), we offer residencies to 10 artists and writers at a time, welcoming applications from all over the world.

Our most current opportunity is a Massachusetts Financial Wellness Residency. We are currently accepting applications from Massachusetts-based artists & writers for 2 - 4 week residencies. Sessions will take place between Nov. 7, 2018 and Dec. 4, 2018.

We offer great studio space and housing, one group meal per day, access to MASS MoCA‘s exhibitions and to Makers’ Mill (a printmaking and fiber arts makerspace located a short walk from the Studios), and one-on-one professional development coaching with the staff of our "Assets for Artists" program.

These residencies come with a deeply subsidized fee of $150/week and participants will receive a travel and meal stipend to further offset costs. In addition to these usual benefits, the artists selected for this residency will have the opportunity to participate in group workshops with artist-experts on personal finance and career development, and optional one-on-one assistance with financial planning and goal-setting, provided via MASS MoCA's Assets for Artists staff.

Click on the links below to find more information on the workshops, and to view the application.

The deadline to apply is April 27, 2017 11:59pm EST. There is no application fee.

North Adams, Massachusetts: United States

MASS MoCA is one of the world's largest and most renowned contemporary art museums, located in North Adams, Massachusetts, about 3 hours (by car) from Boston and New York. North Adams is a former industrial town of approximately 13,000 residents, nestled in the Berkshire Mountains. The surrounding region has tremendous hiking (the Appalachian Trail goes through North Adams, and there are numerous other trails in the surrounding hills -- Mount Greylock State Reservation, Clarksburg State Forest, Green Mountain National Forest, etc.). We also have fantastic arts attractions nearby, including the Clark Art Institute, Williams College Museum of Art and Williamstown Theater Festival just 10 minutes away, and Tanglewood, Jacob's Pillow, Shakespeare & Company, Barrington Stage and Berkshire Theater Festival less than an hour away.
